About Kode
Kode is a daily code-breaking puzzle for people who like to think rather than guess. Every day there is one hidden four-digit code, a board of clues that have already been graded, and three tries to crack it.
What Kode is
Kode borrows the feedback of the classic Mastermind board game and the one-puzzle-a-day rhythm of Wordle, then flips the usual format around. Instead of spending your guesses to gather information, you start with the information: four or five guesses that are already scored. Your job is to read those scores, cross-reference the rows, and work out the only code that fits them all.
How every puzzle is made
Each day's board is generated by a program and then checked by a solver before it is ever published. The solver plays the board the way a careful human would — eliminating digits and positions one row at a time — and a board is only accepted if it can be cracked from start to finish without a single guess. Boards that need luck, trial and error, or long case-splitting are thrown away.
One puzzle for everyone
A new Kode is released at midnight UTC, and every player in the world gets the same board that day. That makes it easy to compare results with friends: share your score without spoiling the code, and see who cracked it in fewer tries.
Free, with no account
Kode runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. Your streak, stats and settings are saved on your own device, so you can start playing the moment the page loads.
